Arenga australasica occurs in the tropical rainforest along the coast of North Queensland and on the east coast of Arnhem land in Australia. The heights at which they grow vary from sea level to 250 meters (800 feet). The palm is up to 20 meters (60 feet) high. The colour of the fruit (seed) varies from orange to red. The palm can give side shoots that are not as large as the main stem. Arenga australasica is still often confused with the smaller Arenga microcarpa. Arenga australasica is a fairly easy palm to keep. Arenga thrives best in partial shade but can also thrive in full sun. Like other Arengas that gives side shoots, it is not a fast grower.
