This early blooming ornamental grass is known for its black and yellow combination, the flowers of Sesleria heufleriana are black plumes with yellow stamens. The green leaves gets a blueish colour later in the year.

This plant is very suited as a winter-hardy and wintergreen ground cover. It prefers well drained soil, is very resistant to droughth and can reach up to 40-50cm (1 -1,5 feet) high. Pruning of dead leaves can be done in spring.
