A self-pollinating species - no second tree needed This well-known species (introduced from the United States) provides large fruits and is known for its taste and long shelf life. The bloom is in spring and harvest is in October. The Jonagold loves a good pruning - do this in the winter. Prune to an open tree with a few main branches. Every year in winter, prune the thin branches (shoots) to within 10cm from the thicker main branches. These 10cm twigs produce blossoms where soon the fruit will grow.
